Civic Trust South East was set up two years ago as a federation of Civic Societies, and associations of Civic Societies, in the South East Government Region (The traditional counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey, West Sussex).

All Civic Societies registered with the Civic Trust in the area are entitled to participate.

It has two main aims:

1.      By working together, to promote the aims and activities of all Civic organisations.

2.      To represent the views of Civic Societies and seek to influence the policies and practice of regional government and other regional organisations.

Since its inception the Civic Trust South East Steering Committee has:

v     Forged links with several Regional Government consultative bodies including the Regional Action for Involvement South East (RAISE) and South East Forum for Sustainability (SEFS).

v     Established a dialogue with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment

v     Attended Government Office of the South East (GOSE) meetings including a seminar on the Planning Green Paper attended by Lord Falconer.

v     Sent a representative to serve on the Civic Trust’s Regional Committee.

v     Developed a draft constitution (attached)

The Steering Committee is now seeking to strengthen its links with its member societies and to establish a pro-active programme of projects and consultations.  It wishes to ensure that it is fully representative of its constituent member societies by adopting a schedule of elections to the committee.  (Details and nomination form attached).
